Yes, senior remote jobs hire outside the US, but less often than mid-level ones. On 27 October 2026, 37.6% of the senior remote postings in our index could hire outside the US and Canada. At mid level the share was 50.4%. Above senior it falls further, to 18.4% for director roles. Engineering roles are the most open. International senior roles list pay far less often, and lower.
If you live in India, Nigeria, Poland or Brazil, you know the pattern. A senior role says "Remote", the work fits, and the last line says "US only". This article measures how often that happens, and where the senior roles that can hire you are.
How we counted
We read every live remote posting in our index on 27 October 2026. That is 59,288 postings that employers published on their own careers pages or hiring systems. Copies on job boards are not counted. Office and hybrid jobs are not counted either.
"Senior" here means senior, lead, staff and principal roles. That is 17,223 postings from 3,681 employers. Manager, director and VP roles are counted apart below.
A posting "can hire outside the US and Canada" when its hiring list includes at least one other country. The list can name the country, or a region that holds it, such as EMEA or LATAM.
Do senior remote jobs hire outside the US?
More than a third of them do. Here is where the 17,223 senior postings say they can hire:
| Senior remote postings on 27 October 2026 | Postings | Share |
|---|---|---|
| List only the United States | 6,057 | 35.2% |
| List only the US and/or Canada | 7,147 | 41.5% |
| Can hire outside the US and Canada | 6,469 | 37.6% |
| Read as open worldwide by our index | 697 | 4.0% |
| Do not say where they hire | 2,910 | 16.9% |
The 6,469 come from 1,838 employers, half of all employers with senior postings. So many senior roles can hire you, but fewer than at mid level.
"Worldwide" is rarer than it looks. Our index reads 697 senior postings as open anywhere. On most of them the location line says only "Remote". Only 58 senior postings say in their own words that you can work from anywhere.
The more senior the title, the more US-only the job
The US-only share rises with the level. The share that can hire outside the US and Canada falls.
| Level | Postings | List only the US | Can hire outside the US and Canada |
|---|---|---|---|
| Junior | 3,297 | 28.3% | 51.7% |
| Mid | 12,220 | 33.8% | 50.4% |
| Senior | 13,302 | 35.5% | 38.4% |
| Lead | 1,982 | 29.6% | 43.9% |
| Staff | 1,204 | 37.8% | 25.3% |
| Principal | 735 | 40.1% | 24.8% |
| Manager | 1,491 | 48.2% | 30.1% |
| VP | 551 | 59.2% | 21.6% |
| Director | 2,030 | 64.7% | 18.4% |
Measured on 27 October 2026. 21,791 postings state no level and are not in the table.
Lead is the exception. Lead roles hire outside the US and Canada more often than senior ones. Staff and principal roles are open to other countries about half as often as mid-level roles.
Senior postings also say nothing about location more often. 16.3% of senior-level postings give no hiring place, against 6.0% at mid level. Staff and principal roles stay silent on 21.6% and 25.0%.
The postings do not say why. Common reasons are legal and practical. Senior people often lead US teams or US customers. A company can employ people only where it has a legal setup, or through an employer of record. Time-zone overlap matters more when you run meetings.
Which senior roles hire outside the US most often

Measured on 27 October 2026, roles with 150 or more senior postings.
Senior product manager postings look closed partly because they are silent. 42.2% of them give no hiring place at all. Ask before you rule one out.
Our guides cover the engineering roles in more depth: full-stack, backend and data engineering.
Where those senior jobs can hire
Most international senior lists point to Europe. Latin America comes next.
| The hiring list includes a country in | Senior postings |
|---|---|
| Europe | 3,360 |
| Latin America | 1,913 |
| Asia-Pacific | 1,330 |
| South Asia | 633 |
| Africa | 566 |
Measured on 27 October 2026, among the 6,469 senior postings that can hire outside the US and Canada. One list can point to several regions. 2,590 of the 6,469 list only European countries. Read what "Remote (Europe only)" means before you apply from Asia or Africa.
Country by country, here is how many senior postings can hire there. These counts leave out postings that are only read as worldwide.
| Country | Senior postings whose list includes it | Of those, name the country |
|---|---|---|
| Poland | 1,291 | 362 |
| Brazil | 1,229 | 732 |
| Mexico | 938 | 236 |
| Colombia | 691 | 195 |
| Argentina | 674 | 179 |
| Ukraine | 655 | 102 |
| India | 602 | 485 |
| South Africa | 459 | 85 |
| Nigeria | 397 | 21 |
| Philippines | 393 | 268 |
| Pakistan | 158 | 37 |
Measured on 27 October 2026.
Nigeria shows why the country name is a poor search word. 397 senior postings can hire there, and 21 name Nigeria. The rest reach it through a region such as EMEA or Africa. India is the reverse: most lists that include India name it.
Each country page lists every level, not only senior roles. On 27 October our India page showed 3,381 postings that can hire there, by name, by region or anywhere. 1,019 of them name India. Our country guides cover India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Brazil, Mexico and the Philippines.
Some employers post many senior roles open beyond North America. On 27 October, Mozilla, Elastic, GitLab, Grafana Labs, Veeva, Kraken, ClickHouse, Wiz and Moniepoint each had 20 or more. Several post one role once per country, so count roles, not postings. Browse more on our companies page.
What international senior roles pay
Pay is listed on 65.3% of US-only senior postings. It is listed on 14.9% of those that can hire outside the US and Canada. So the international figures below rest on fewer postings.
| Senior postings on 27 October 2026, pay in US dollars a year | Postings with pay | Median of the range |
|---|---|---|
| List only the US | 3,957 | $169,700 |
| Can hire outside the US and Canada | 966 | $100,000 |
| List countries, none of them the US | 729 | $89,881 |
The gap depends on the role:
| Senior role | US-only median | Can hire outside the US and Canada |
|---|---|---|
| Security engineer | $196,285 | $90,000 (69 postings) |
| Backend developer | $185,000 | $95,250 (52 postings) |
| Account executive | $172,500 | $167,992 (50 postings) |
| Marketing manager | $144,250 | $65,544 (81 postings) |
Measured on 27 October 2026. Each figure is the middle of the posted ranges, converted to US dollars a year.
Account executives see almost no gap. Engineering roles that hire abroad list about half the US figure.
Two cautions. Several US states require a pay range in the posting, which is why US-only roles list pay so often. And a posted range is what the employer published, not what anyone was paid. Many companies set pay by country. Our guide to geographic pay bands explains how.
How to read a senior posting's location before you apply
A senior application takes hours. Check these points first.
- Read the location line and the last paragraph. Restrictions often sit at the end: "must be based in the US", "US work authorization required".
- Treat "Remote" alone as unknown. One senior posting in six says nothing. Ask the recruiter one line: "Can you employ someone based in my country?"
- Decode the region word. EMEA includes Africa and the Middle East. APAC usually includes India. "Americas" often means North and South America.
- Watch for time-zone rules. "US Eastern hours" can be a schedule, or a location filter written as one. Ask which.
- Ask how they would pay you. Employee, contractor or employer of record changes your taxes and benefits. See contractor vs employee.
- Start from employers that already hire abroad. A company with staff near you has done the legal work once.
- Do not apply hoping for an exception. See what "Remote (US only)" means. A strong resume does not change where a company can legally employ.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do senior remote jobs hire internationally?
Some do. On 27 October 2026, 37.6% of senior remote postings in our index could hire outside the US and Canada. That was 6,469 postings from 1,838 employers. At mid level the share was 50.4%.
Why are senior remote jobs more often US-only?
The postings rarely say. Senior people often lead US teams or US customers, and companies hire where they have a legal setup. Director roles are the most US-bound: 64.7% list only the United States.
Which senior remote roles are most open to candidates outside the US?
Full-stack, QA, backend and data engineering. About half of their senior postings could hire outside the US and Canada on 27 October 2026. Legal counsel and product marketing were the least open, at 25.8% and 17.2%.
Do international senior remote jobs pay less?
Their posted ranges are lower. On 27 October 2026 the median for US-only senior postings was $169,700. For those that can hire outside the US and Canada, it was $100,000. Only 14.9% of the international ones listed pay at all.
Is "worldwide" common for senior remote jobs?
No. Our index read 4.0% of senior postings as open worldwide on 27 October 2026. Only 58 of 17,223 said in their own words that you can work from anywhere.
What should I do when a senior posting does not say where it hires?
Ask before you apply. One senior posting in six gives no hiring place. A one-line message to the recruiter saves you an evening on an application that cannot go anywhere.
