TL;DR — 1,053 of the remote jobs in our index can hire someone living in Pakistan. Only 37 of them write the word "Pakistan" — about one in twenty-eight. Nearly all your access comes through broad labels: "worldwide", "anywhere", "Asia", or a region list that happens to include you. Searching by country name hides almost everything.
Pakistan has one of the world's largest freelance workforces and one of the smallest footprints in remote job listings. The reason is a labelling problem, not a demand problem.
The numbers first
We counted the live remote postings in our index on 20 September 2026. These counts cover postings from employers' own careers pages.
| What we counted (20 September 2026) | Number |
| Remote jobs that can hire someone in Pakistan | 1,053 |
| Of those, postings that name Pakistan directly | 37 (3.5%) |
| Live remote postings in the index overall | 37,811 |
| Postings that say anything about where they can hire | 50.8% |
| Postings that say "worldwide" | 2.0% |
| Postings restricted to the United States only | 18.7% (7,089) |
| Postings that publish a salary range | 15.6% |
Thirty-seven postings is what searching "remote jobs in Pakistan" finds. A thousand more are open to you and say nothing about your country either way.
Why Pakistan almost never appears by name
Two forces push the country name off the posting.
Half of all postings say nothing at all. Only 50.8% of the remote roles in our index state where the employer can hire; the other half leave the field blank, not because they decided against you but because nobody wrote the line. Unstated is not excluded, and those postings are the biggest single category you will be working with.
When a region is stated, Pakistan tends to fall between the labels. This is the problem Pakistani job seekers have that Indian or Filipino ones do not: companies slice the world into three or four regions, and Pakistan lands in a different bucket depending on who drew the map.
| Label | Is Pakistan in it? |
| APAC / Asia-Pacific | Sometimes. Definitions vary, and the IMF — whose grouping many organisations borrow — counts Pakistan in MENAP, its Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan group. |
| EMEA | Occasionally, when a "Middle East and Africa" sub-region reaches into South Asia. More often not. |
| South Asia / Asia | Usually yes, but the least-used labels of the lot. |
| Worldwide / anywhere | Yes — your cleanest category, though only 2.0% of postings say it. |
| US only | No. That is 18.7% of the index gone. |
Our explainers on what APAC means in a job posting and what EMEA means show how far apart two companies' definitions of the same word can be. The consequence for you: when a posting names a region, look for your country in the application form's dropdown rather than trusting the acronym.
The clock is your strongest argument
Pakistan sits at UTC+5 all year and does not observe daylight saving time. That makes it one of the better-placed countries for European hours and one of the harder ones for American afternoons.
| Employer's hub | Difference from Pakistan | What a 9-to-5 there looks like in Karachi or Lahore |
| Dubai (UTC+4) | 1 hour | 10am–6pm — effectively the same day |
| London (UTC+0, +1 in summer) | 5 hours, 4 in the British summer | 1pm–9pm, or noon–8pm in summer |
| Berlin / Amsterdam (UTC+1, +2 in summer) | 4 hours, 3 in summer | Noon–8pm, or 11am–7pm in summer |
| New York (UTC−5, −4 in summer) | 10 hours, 9 in summer | 7pm–3am, or 6pm–2am in summer |
This is why "4 hours of overlap with CET" is a job you can hold comfortably and "core hours 9–5 Pacific" is not. Our guide to time-zone overlap covers the usual wordings and which of them are negotiable.
So say the overlap out loud when you write to a European or Gulf employer: "I'm at UTC+5, which gives me a full working day with your team through 6pm CET." It turns a location the recruiter has to think about into a number they can use.
Contractor or employee: what you will actually be offered
Most cross-border remote work from Pakistan is contractor work: you invoice the company, usually in US dollars, and handle your own filings locally. A smaller number of companies employ people in Pakistan formally through an employer of record — a local provider that holds the contract, runs payroll and bills the company — which is how a foreign employer hires there without registering an entity of its own.
The difference is not cosmetic. A contractor carries their own leave, notice period, equipment and contributions; an employee through an employer of record gets statutory protections under Pakistani labour law, and courts there look at substance rather than the contract's label. Our guide to contractor versus employee remote jobs covers what changes.
Getting paid: the practical part
This is where Pakistani remote workers lose the most time. How it looked in September 2026, when we checked:
- Payoneer remains the most widely used option, with receiving accounts in major currencies and withdrawal to a local bank account.
- Wise changed: guides written for Pakistani freelancers this year report that it stopped accepting new sign-ups from users based in Pakistan in January 2026. Transfers from a client's own Wise account to a Pakistani IBAN are a different matter. Check current availability before you build a plan on it.
- Direct bank transfer to your IBAN works for any client willing to send a wire, and leaves the simplest paper trail.
- Payroll platforms. If the company uses a contractor-payment or employer-of-record platform you do not choose the rail — but you get a proper contract and monthly invoices, which banks like.
Two habits matter more than the provider. Keep the money in formal banking channels — the State Bank of Pakistan expects foreign earnings to arrive through documented ones, and informal transfers are expensive to unwind. And keep contracts and invoices: that paperwork turns "money appeared in my account" into provable export income. Tax treatment of foreign-currency earnings changes from year to year and depends on how you are registered, so this is general information rather than tax advice — an accountant in Pakistan will know the current position.
A search routine that works
- Search the label, not the country. "Worldwide", "anywhere", "Asia", "APAC" and "EMEA" each surface roles that "Pakistan" does not.
- Do not skip postings with no location line. Half say nothing about geography, and that silence is where most of your 1,053 openings live.
- Filter by time zone honestly. European and Gulf hours are your natural market. Take US roles when the posting says asynchronous, or names an overlap you can genuinely keep.
- Confirm before you tailor anything. One message — "Can you hire a contractor based in Pakistan?" — saves an hour.
- Browse by country. Our Pakistan page collects postings from employers' own careers pages that can hire there, including the ones that never write the country's name, and the wider remote jobs index covers everything else.
One thing not to do: put a false location on your profile. It survives until the contract or the background check, and it turns a solvable question — can this company pay someone in Pakistan? — into a trust problem.

FAQ
How many remote jobs can hire someone in Pakistan?
In our index on 20 September 2026, 1,053 live remote postings could hire someone living in Pakistan, and only 37 named Pakistan directly. The rest were open through a worldwide posting, a broad region label, or by not restricting hiring at all.
Is Pakistan included in APAC job postings?
Sometimes, and you cannot assume it. Company definitions of APAC vary widely, and the IMF — whose groupings many organisations borrow — counts Pakistan in MENAP, its Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan group, rather than in Asia-Pacific. Look for Pakistan in the application form's country field, or ask.
How do remote workers in Pakistan get paid by foreign companies?
Most are paid in US dollars as contractors, through a receiving-account service such as Payoneer, a direct bank wire to a Pakistani IBAN, or the employer's own contractor-payment platform. When we checked in September 2026, guides for Pakistani freelancers reported that Wise had stopped accepting new sign-ups from inside Pakistan in January 2026. Keep earnings in formal banking channels, and keep your contracts and invoices.
Which time zones suit a remote worker in Pakistan?
Pakistan is at UTC+5 year round. Gulf hours are nearly identical, European hours overlap comfortably — a London 9-to-5 is 1pm to 9pm in Karachi — and Singapore is three hours ahead. US roles are the hard case: New York's working day starts at 6pm or 7pm your time.
Can a US company employ me in Pakistan, or only hire me as a contractor?
Both are possible, and contractor is the common arrangement. For formal employment a foreign company uses an employer of record that holds a Pakistani entity and employs you on its behalf. Which one you are offered changes your leave, notice and statutory contributions, so ask early.
