Compliance Officer Our client, a well-established organisation operating within Malta’s regulated financial and corporate services sector, is looking to recruit a Compliance Officer to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and overseeing the organisation’s compliance framework, ensuring that its activities remain aligned with applicable Maltese legislation, regulatory requirements and internal policies.

This is a key control function requiring strong regulatory knowledge, sound judgement and the ability to work independently while collaborating with senior management and other control functions. Responsibilities Maintain, review and enhance the organisation’s compliance policies, procedures and risk-based Compliance Monitoring Programme.

Carry out periodic compliance reviews, including client file reviews and assessments of internal controls. Identify and report regulatory breaches, compliance issues, control weaknesses and areas for improvement. Recommend appropriate remedial actions and follow up on their implementation within agreed timelines.

Prepare periodic compliance reports for the Board of Directors and provide guidance on regulatory developments and requirements. Monitor compliance with applicable Maltese legislation, including the Trusts and Trustees Act, Company Service Providers Act, relevant MFSA rules and conditions of authorisation.

Coordinate regulatory submissions, notifications and responses to requests for information. Act as a key point of contact with the MFSA on compliance-related matters, including regulatory reviews and inspections. Review complaints, outsourcing arrangements and actual or potential conflicts of interest from a compliance perspective.

Collaborate closely with the MLRO, Risk Officer and other control functions while maintaining the required level of independence. Assist with compliance training and contribute towards maintaining a strong compliance culture throughout the organisation. Exercise independent judgement and ensure appropriate escalation of compliance matters to the Board of Directors.

Identify, disclose and appropriately manage actual or potential conflicts of interest. Requirements A recognised degree or professional qualification in Law, Compliance, Finance, Accountancy, Risk Management, Corporate Services or another relevant discipline. Relevant professional experience within compliance, legal, audit, regulatory or risk management functions.

Experience within a Company Service Provider (CSP), trustee/fiduciary business, financial institution or other regulated organisation is required. Good understanding of the Maltese regulatory framework , particularly requirements applicable to CSPs and trustee/fiduciary activities.

Practical knowledge of corporate services, client onboarding, ongoing monitoring and governance processes. Strong ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into effective policies, procedures and internal controls. The IFSP Foundation Certificate in Trusts Law and Management would be considered an asset. Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and exercise sound professional judgement.
