Can you work for a foreign company from Egypt?
Yes: a company abroad can pay you as an independent contractor, employ you through an employer of record, or hire you through its own entity in Egypt. What changes between the three is who handles tax, what protections you get and how the money arrives.

What the law in Egypt says about income from abroad
- Under ETA guidance, a remote service supplied to a business customer located outside Egypt is zero-rated for VAT, apart from services tied to Egyptian real estate or needing both parties present in Egypt. Source 1
- Law No. 6 of 2025 offers a simplified turnover-based tax regime for projects with annual turnover up to EGP 20 million, with rates from 0.4% to 1.5%. Source 2
- Admission to the simplified regime is requested electronically on Form 1/10, and the annual income tax return for commercial, industrial or professional activity under it uses Form 20. Source 3
Five questions to ask before you sign
- Am I a contractor or an employee, and under which country's law is the contract?
- In what currency am I paid, and who sets the exchange rate?
- Through which channel does the money arrive, and who pays the fees?
- If an employer of record employs me, which one, and will I get a payslip from Egypt?
- Will anyone ask me to pay for equipment or training? (If yes, walk away.)
