The Company

Torn Banner Studios is a Toronto, Canada-based independent game development studio founded in 2010. We first made our mark with Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, a multi-million copy selling title that redefined melee combat in gaming. Since then, we’ve continued to grow and innovate, releasing Chivalry 2 and, most recently, No More Room in Hell 2. Today, our team of around 100 developers is dedicated to creating fun, cinematic and social gaming experiences.

The Role

As part of our QA team, you will work with developers on a daily basis to help test features from concept to release. As a development tester you will be responsible for the quality of features across the game as well as contributing towards larger team goals. You must be able to take test cases and execute them, follow up on internal and external bug reports, write concise bugs, and help identify testing needs and quality expectations.

Important note: This role is for a fixed 12-month contract. While this role can be carried out remotely, candidates are required to be current Ontario or Quebec residents.

Responsibilities

  • Execute test cases to a level that provides respective departments with confidence that a feature or update is ready for shipping.
  • Maintain a high written quality of bugs.
  • Collaborate with other Testers on daily smoke tests to provide a pulse check on development health.
  • Perform regression testing on fixed bugs, and exploratory testing on new changes to identify new issues and unexpected knock-ons.
  • Communicate actively with developers and our Community team to reproduce issues encountered during internal and external playtests.
  • Provide constructive feedback on features in development, contributing to the final design.

Requirements

  • Experience as a QA Tester working on an active game project, with the ideal candidate having shipped at least 1 title.
  • Strong bug writing skills and understanding of best practices.
  • Understanding of core QA concepts such as the bug life cycle.
  • Familiarity with Jira or other issue tracking software.
  • Familiarity with Testrail or another test management tool.
  • Strong ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Able to quickly transition between different tasks and projects.
  • Familiarity with PC and console multiplayer games.
  • Eager to learn new skills.

Bonus

  • Previous experience with multiplayer/network testing.
  • Previous experience with testing on console platforms.
  • Experience with in-depth testing for new maps, or experience working closely with level designers.
  • Professional experience in beta testing or patch testing with live games.

Benefits & Perks

  • Summer Fridays as paid days off (4-day work week in July & August)
  • Flexible schedule and work location, with your choice of remote, hybrid, or on-site.

Increased salaries may be achievable for those who have achieved mastery and deep industry knowledge over time. Your specific offer will rely on your unique experience and alignment to our team's needs for the position.

Transparency on use of AI and position vacancy

  • Our recruitment process does not use artificial intelligence to automatically screen, assess, or select applicants. All decisions on progressing, rejecting, and offering candidates are made by human reviewers.
  • One AI–enabled tool that may be used during the interview process is that of interview recording, transcription, and summarizing. Again, this would not make decisions, but simply make reviewing the notes easier. We will always ask for the candidate's approval before using such a tool.
  • In compliance with Ontario regulations, the advertised posting is for a currently vacant position.
