Own AI and systems for a scaling CPA firm. Automate workflows, integrate APIs, build real AI capacity gains.

$3,500-4,000 USD/month | Full-time | Overlap to 2pm ET

Craig Cody & Company is a US-based CPA firm headquartered in New York, working with a large base of agency clients. We support over 70 agency clients, many of them connected to AMI (Agency Management Institute), on their accounting and tax work. The firm is almost entirely remote with around 30 people: CPAs across the US in the Carolinas, Texas, California and Washington State, a small admin and bookkeeping team in the Philippines, and team members in the UK. Hiring remotely and internationally is something we are already very comfortable with. Compared to most small CPA firms, we lean heavily into technology. The attitude here is simple: let's spend the money, let's get the tech, let's use it. We are not a hierarchy, we are pretty flat, and we are nice people, so no one is snapping at anybody. Core IT is handled by an MSP provider we have worked with for around 15 years. We're looking for an AI & Systems Specialist to help the firm take advantage of AI and better integrate the systems we already use, so we can increase capacity and efficiency across the business. You will become the internal go-to owner of the firm's systems, working alongside our long-standing MSP provider to implement and evolve an AI strategy, likely built around a locally hosted AI model.

Here is what you will be doing:

  • Tie together our core systems (Karbon practice management, QuickBooks Online, HubSpot and CCH Axcess tax software) using APIs where available.
  • Implement AI into existing processes, for example drafting account-manager email replies by pulling from recorded client calls, email threads, notes and Karbon data.
  • Automate recurring workflows, such as pulling data out of QuickBooks Online for tasks done for every client.
  • Support AI-assisted first-pass review of tax returns, for example working with XML output from CCH Axcess rather than 100-plus page PDFs.
  • Stand up and manage AI infrastructure flexibly, including local AI (a Mac Studio is on order) and cloud environments such as AWS, depending on data sensitivity.
  • Interact with our existing MSP provider (2 to 3 people) on IT matters.
  • Sit down with team members, such as our HR and Admin lead, to understand their processes and identify where AI and automation can help.

This is a full-time role. You will need to overlap with US hours, working until around 2pm US Eastern.

To be successful in this role, you need:

  • Strong experience integrating SaaS systems via APIs and building automations.
  • Hands-on AI implementation experience, using the right model or tool for the job (local versus cloud, sensitive versus non-sensitive data). You don't need to be a hardcore developer: building with AI and low-code tools is fine, as long as you understand the technology well enough to judge the right approach.
  • Solid working knowledge of local AI setups and cloud environments, with proficiency in AWS.
  • Excellent spoken and written English, and the ability to explain things in plain terms and train non-technical team members. You will translate business problems into technical solutions.
  • To be willing and able to overlap with US hours, up to around 2pm US Eastern.
  • Your own laptop and a reliable high-speed internet connection.

Brownie points for:

  • Experience or interest in the accounting and finance world (interest matters more to us than direct experience).
  • Familiarity with any of our core tools: Karbon, QuickBooks Online, HubSpot, CCH Axcess.

You will fit in well here if you are a self-starter who doesn’t need hand-holding. You bring us ideas, we approve them, and you run with them. When we suggest doing something one way and there’s a better way, you tell us why. Some of what we want may not be technically possible yet, and we’d rather hear that early. You build trust with non-technical colleagues rather than being seen as just the techy person. We are looking for someone who is long-term minded and excited to grow with a fast-moving firm at the forefront of AI in accounting.

What’s in it for you?

  • $3,500 to $4,000 USD per month.*
  • Full-time independent contractor position.
  • Fully remote, with flexibility on location as long as you overlap with US Eastern hours until around 2pm ET.
  • 2 weeks of paid vacation.
  • 5 sick days.
  • Christmas week and July 4th week off with pay.
  • 5 local holidays.

*Please note that this is a gross salary and that you are responsible for any tax-related procedures in your country of residence. We kindly ask you to apply only if you are happy to work remotely as an independent contractor. This is our typical hiring process - occasionally, it may include extra steps. For this role, JobRack is partnering with the company to find their next hire. We’ll handle all the screening and testing, so they see only the best-fit candidates - like you!

How to shine

  • Read the role details carefully.
  • Submit a thoughtful, high-quality application.
  • Stay responsive - we’ll keep you updated at every stage.

Important notes

  • Apply only through JobRack; please don’t contact the company directly.
  • We expect a respectful hiring experience - any disrespect means instant disqualification.
  • This is a full-time, primary role (no freelancing or second jobs).
