Managing Director, Environmental Consulting
Business Unit Leader | United States
About Infinity Constellation
Professional services firms have historically grown by adding headcount: more analysts, associates, and support staff to serve more clients. Infinity Constellation is built on a different thesis. A small team, led by an outstanding credentialed practitioner and paired with an AI backbone that handles everything else, can now do what used to take dozens of people.
We are building independent, high-margin business units (BUs) inside a single company. Each unit is built around one or two core people and supported by Infinity's technology platform and our engineering and product teams, which take over HR, accounting, finance, and data-processing work. The practitioner keeps selling the same service, to the same buyers, at the same or better quality, but serves far more clients per person.
Environmental consulting is one of our three founding verticals.
The Role
We are looking for a Managing Director to found and lead Infinity's Environmental Consulting business unit. You will be the practitioner who deeply understands a specific environmental niche, holds real client relationships in it, and can define exactly what belongs on a compliant report. You will build a practice that carries meaningfully more work per person than a traditional firm, with Infinity building the tools that remove manual work from the process.
This is an entrepreneurial role with real upside: you shape the service offering, the team, and the tooling roadmap, and you share directly in the value you create.
About the Practice
Environmental consulting covers the compliance and permitting work required before, during, and after physical development, including pipelines, transmission lines, real estate, and industrial sites. It is not one discipline but many, each with its own methods and buyers: wetland and waterbody delineation, habitat and species surveys, contamination assessment, and regulatory compliance auditing.
A typical engagement begins once a client has identified a route or site. A team surveys the land, collects field data using GIS tools, and produces a report filed with local, state, and/or federal agencies. Demand is driven by regulation rather than sentiment, and the cost of noncompliance far exceeds the cost of the service.
The industry remains manual and fragmented. Reports are largely boilerplate with small jurisdiction-specific edits, yet no shared source of truth exists for what each county or agency requires, so practitioners spend real time searching and calling around. Projects also pass through chains of subcontractors, which leaves clients feeling that no one is accountable for the outcome. Infinity is building the tools, and the single point of accountability, to fix that.
What You Will Do
-
Lead the business unit: Run the Environmental Consulting BU end to end, including strategy, client relationships, quality, and financial performance.
-
Define the niche: Decide which environmental sub-specialty or sub-specialties the unit serves, and who the buyers are.
-
Originate and grow the book: Bring your existing client relationships to Infinity and expand them across a wide roster of clients.
-
Stand behind the outcome: Serve as the single accountable point of contact for clients, from site survey through filing, so they are not left managing a chain of subcontractors.
-
Set the standard for a compliant report: Define what a complete, jurisdiction-correct report contains, and review and sign off on drafted reports rather than assembling them from scratch.
-
Direct the tooling: Work with Infinity's engineering and product teams on a centralized source for jurisdiction-specific requirements, streamlined field data capture, and automated report drafting.
-
Shape the team: Determine the right team for your niche. In some niches one strong practitioner is enough; in others you will build a small team that includes people who need to be in the field, since AI cannot do that part.
-
Collaborate across Infinity: Partner with other business unit leaders on cross-selling to shared clients as the portfolio grows.
What We're Looking For
-
Deep niche expertise: Substantial hands-on experience in a specific environmental discipline, with the technical credentials and standing that regulators and clients require.
-
Real client relationships: An existing book of business, or the relationships to build one quickly.
-
Regulatory fluency: Command of what local, state, and/or federal agencies require for your niche, including where requirements vary by jurisdiction.
-
Senior practitioner or already independent: Either a senior non-partner deep in delivering the service today and ready to build a practice with real upside, or a practitioner who has already gone independent and wants to be super-powered by Infinity: the backbone, tooling, and capital to carry far more work without rebuilding a firm around yourself.
-
A point of view on automation: You know which parts of the work (research on jurisdictional requirements, field data capture, report drafting) should move to an AI-driven workflow first.
-
Entrepreneurial mindset: Energized by rebuilding the firm itself rather than building software to sell to existing firms.
-
Location: Based in the United States. Our business units currently serve US clients only.
Compensation
Compensation follows the same structure across all Infinity business units:
-
Market base salary
-
Uncapped variable compensation tied to revenue generated
-
An equity grant in Infinity
Why Infinity
-
Real upside: build and lead a business unit with compensation tied directly to your results, including uncapped variable pay and an equity grant in Infinity.
-
A shared backbone: HR, accounting, finance, and data-processing work handled by Infinity's platform and teams, so your time goes to clients and technical judgment.
-
Tools built for your practice: engineering and product resources dedicated to the problems that cost you time today.
-
A growing network: as Infinity scales its portfolio of business units, you'll be part of a larger network of practices serving overlapping clients.
