About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Forensic Firearms and Toolmark Examiner to contribute to a specialized project focused on evaluating and improving AI capabilities in forensic science.

This role is specifically intended for professionals with genuine casework experience in firearm and toolmark examination, particularly microscopic comparison, bullet and cartridge case examination, and toolmark identification. Candidates should have practical familiarity with AFTE standards and forensic laboratory methodologies. This is not a general chemistry, biology, or laboratory science position.

You will review AI-generated responses to complex forensic scenarios, assess their scientific accuracy, and provide expert feedback to help ensure AI systems reflect accepted forensic examination practices. No previous AI experience is required.

  • Assess analyses of firing pin impressions, breech face impressions, and other cartridge case markings.
  • Examine the interpretation of bullet characteristics, rifling impressions, and related ballistic evidence.
  • Evaluate whether AI-generated conclusions align with established forensic laboratory methodologies and AFTE standards.
