Help Shape California’s Future

CIPC is recruiting volunteers to join its Board of Directors to help build a California where everyone can access healthcare, afford life’s essentials, live safely, and participate fully in our democracy. We’re seeking leaders energized by advancing immigrant justice and bringing their ideas, relationships, and leadership to a better future for all Californians.

About CIPC

For 30 years, the California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) has been a leader in the immigrant rights movement, advancing bold policies that invest in the safety and wellbeing of all Californians. Now, we are looking for visionary leaders to join our Board of Directors to build on this legacy. This is an opportunity to help grow CIPC, and shape the future for a more just and prosperous California.

Mission

The California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) upholds the humanity of immigrant communities in California by transforming systems to achieve racial, social, and economic justice.

Vision

CIPC envisions a welcoming and prosperous California where all people — regardless of status or background — thrive with dignity, safety, and freedom.

About the Board

CIPC’s Board of Directors provides strategic leadership, governance, and stewardship while helping expand the organization’s reach and resources. We are seeking engaged leaders who will serve as thought partners to the Executive Director and serve as active ambassadors for CIPC. The role involves connecting CIPC with strategic partners and funders and helping recruit future board members. Members contribute to a collaborative, accountable board culture, with opportunities to serve as officers and committee members.

Role & Responsibilities

Board members are expected to:

  • Provide strategic guidance and organizational oversight.
  • Uphold CIPC's mission, vision, and values.
  • Serve as ambassadors for CIPC within their professional and community networks.
  • Participate in quarterly board meetings and monthly committee work.
  • Support organizational fundraising, resource development, and strategic partnerships.
  • Introduce CIPC to prospective funders and help cultivate those relationships.
  • Help identify strategic partnerships within your network including future board members who strengthen CIPC’s expertise, reach, and leadership.
  • Review and approve key organizational policies, budgets, and strategic priorities.
  • Partner with the Executive Director to ensure strong governance and organizational effectiveness.
  • Contribute their expertise, lived experience, and leadership to strengthen CIPC's impact.

Ideal Candidate

We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds and experiences who are committed to advancing immigrant rights and social justice.

Ideal candidates may bring expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Public policy and advocacy
  • Nonprofit leadership and governance
  • Finance, accounting, or audit
  • Legal services or immigration law
  • Fundraising and philanthropy
  • Communications, media, or narrative change expertise
  • Human resources and organizational development
  • Community organizing and movement building
  • Technology, innovation, or data strategy

We particularly encourage applications from immigrants, descendants of immigrants, and leaders who reflect the diversity of California's communities.

Successful board members are collaborative, strategic thinkers who are committed to equity, accountability, and collective leadership.

Compensation

This is a volunteer position. Costs associated with board responsibilities including travel are reimbursed by the organization.
