Position Summary The Light Gauge Steel (LGS) / Cold-Formed Steel (CFS) Structural Engineer is responsible for the structural analysis, design, detailing, and coordination of light-gauge/cold-formed steel framing systems for modular, panelized, and prefabricated buildings (including residential homes, ADUs, multi-family, and light commercial).

The role emphasizes buildability, manufacturing constraints, transportation/lifting considerations, and California code-compliant designs that support efficient factory production and on-site installation. Key Responsibilities Perform structural analysis and design of LGS/CFS wall, floor, roof, and framing systems using applicable codes (AISI S100, IBC, ASCE 7, California Building Code, Etc).

Design members, connections, bracing, shear walls, and load paths with attention to local buckling, distortional buckling, web crippling, and serviceability. Prepare calculations, design drawings, details, and specifications; stamp/seal documents as Engineer of Record or specialty engineer when licensed.

Coordinate with architecture, senior PE, MEP, manufacturing/factory teams, estimating, and field installation to ensure designs are manufacturable, transportable, stackable, and erectable. Review and check shop drawings, BIM models, and fabrication details (using Revit, or similar).

Support value engineering, panelization/modular optimization, and resolution of RFIs or field issues. Ensure compliance with seismic, wind, and fire requirements common in California markets. Collaborate on continuous improvement of standard details, connection libraries, and production-friendly design practices.

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred). 3–10+ years of structural engineering experience, with significant focus on light-gauge / cold-formed steel (modular or panelized experience strongly preferred). Strong knowledge of AISI, AISC (for hybrid systems), ASCE, and IBC standards; California PE or SE license preferred (or ability to obtain).

Proficiency with analysis software (STAAD, ETABS, SAP2000, RISA, CFS-specific tools) and BIM/detailing platforms (Revit, AutoCAD). Understanding of modular construction constraints: manufacturing tolerances, lifting/handling, transportation, stacking, and site installation. Excellent coordination, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Experience with hybrid LGS + hot-rolled steel systems. Prior work in modular, offsite, or panelized residential/commercial construction. Familiarity with California seismic design and local permitting processes.

Work Environment Remote, full-time, supporting high-volume modular production environments. Compensation DOE
