TL;DR — On 27 September 2026 our index held 1,977 live remote postings open to a candidate in Ghana, out of 53,655 in total. Only 5 of them name Ghana — 0.25%, one of the thinnest slices of any country we track. The rest reach you through EMEA, Africa or a line saying the employer hires worldwide. If you search "Ghana" on a job board, you are reading a fraction of one percent of what's actually open to you.
Why "Ghana" is almost the wrong word to search
All figures below are from our index of live postings taken almost entirely from employers' own careers pages — Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, SmartRecruiters and others — refreshed every two hours, measured on 27 September 2026.
| Measured on 27 September 2026 | Result |
| Live remote postings in the index | 53,655 |
| Postings that say nothing about where they hire | 26,931 (50.2%) |
| Postings open to a candidate in Ghana | 1,977 |
| ...of those, postings that name Ghana | 5 (0.25%) |
| Postings open through EMEA/Africa or a similar region label | 681 (34.4%) |
| Postings open because the employer says "worldwide" | 1,291 (65.3%) |
Ghana has the lowest count of country-named postings of any market we cover. That is not a sign the market is small — 1,977 postings are open to a Ghana-based candidate — it is a sign that almost nobody writes the country's name, and a country-only search will make the market look like it barely exists.
Where the other 1,972 postings actually are
An employer writes a country name once it has confirmed, legally, that it can pay someone there. Everyone else describes the shape of their hiring instead:
- Region labels. "Remote — EMEA", "Africa." Ghana sits inside both; our guide to what EMEA means in a job posting explains why the acronym is worth checking against the posting's own country list, not taking at face value.
- Worldwide lines. "Remote — Anywhere", "Fully distributed", "Work from anywhere." This is the largest single bucket open to Ghana in our index — nearly two-thirds of the whole market open to you.
- Time-zone windows. "UTC±1", "GMT business hours", "must overlap with London." Accra sits on GMT itself, so these windows are often written with a Ghana-time candidate in mind without ever saying so.
Half the whole index, 50.2%, states no hiring location at all — not a no, just an unanswered question worth a short email.
Search these words instead of "Ghana"
| Search term | What it usually means | Worth searching? |
| EMEA | Europe, the Middle East and Africa | Yes — check the actual country list |
| Africa | The region as a whole | Yes |
| Worldwide, Anywhere, Global | No stated location limit | Yes — nearly two-thirds of the whole market |
| GMT, UTC+0, UTC±1, CET | Working-hours bands Accra already sits inside | Yes |
| Ghana | The 5 postings that name it | Yes, but a very thin slice |
| "US only", "Remote (United States)" | Closed unless you relocate | No |
Our page of remote jobs open to candidates in Ghana already runs these searches for you — postings that name Ghana, reach you through EMEA or Africa, or say worldwide, in one list, rather than the five you'd find searching the country name alone.
The roles behind those numbers
Ghana's named postings on 27 September 2026 included internal-audit and investigations roles at M-Kopa (a fintech operating across several African markets), engineering roles at Wikimedia, and a cargo sales manager role at Etihad Airways based in Accra — a small, mixed sample that says more about how few postings bother naming any single African country than about what work is actually available. The wider EMEA and worldwide postings are where most opportunities sit, and they span the same mix our own readers search for: project manager, operations, administrative assistant, business analyst, support specialist, full-stack developer, customer service, backend developer, DevOps and customer success. Half of that list is not engineering — worth remembering if you've been searching only for developer roles.
Getting paid from Accra
A company with no Ghanaian entity can still hire you legally, usually one of two ways. As an independent contractor, you invoice directly and file your own tax with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). As an employee through an employer of record, a firm with a Ghanaian entity employs you on the company's behalf and runs payroll and statutory contributions. Our guide to contractor vs. employee remote offers walks through what actually changes between the two — ask which one is on the table in your first call. A direct local entity is rare unless the company already employs several people in the country.
How the money moves. When we checked in September 2026, Ghanaian freelancers and remote employees commonly received USD or GBP through Payoneer or Wise, withdrawing to major local banks such as GCB, Ecobank or Fidelity, and in some cases to mobile-money wallets like MTN MoMo through an intermediary bank transfer. Fees vary by platform and by how the money enters — compare the quoted rate against a straight bank conversion before you commit to one provider for every payment.
Tax follows residency. Income earned while you live in Ghana is generally taxable there regardless of the currency or the paying country. This is general information, not tax advice — check your own situation with a Ghanaian accountant before your first invoice.
The scam rule that never changes
A real employer never asks you to pay to apply, buy a "starter kit," or cover a recruiter's fee before you're hired. A posting that reached you through EMEA or "worldwide" and later asks for money at any point is the scam, however professional the email looks. Search the exact company name plus "scam" before sending anyone your banking details.
Accra's clock needs no adjusting
Ghana runs on Greenwich Mean Time, UTC+0, all year — no daylight-saving shift, which makes it one of the simplest time zones on this list to state.
| Their office | Their 9:00 a.m., in Accra time | What the overlap feels like |
| London (UTC+0 / +1) | 9:00 a.m. in winter, 8:00 a.m. in summer | Same clock as London most of the year |
| Berlin, Paris (UTC+1 / +2) | 8:00 a.m. in winter, 7:00 a.m. in summer | Full overlap, one to two hours ahead of your team |
| New York (UTC-5 / -4) | 2:00 p.m. in winter, 1:00 p.m. in summer | Early afternoon for you |
Sharing London's exact clock for half the year is a real advantage worth mentioning in an interview — it rarely shows up in the posting itself. A US East Coast role is workable but starts your day early afternoon rather than morning; ask about the expected overlap before you accept. Our explainer on time-zone overlap covers how much shared time most teams ask for.
A short check before you apply
- Where does the posting say it can hire? Ghana by name, a region, worldwide, or nothing — and if nothing, ask.
- Contract type. Independent contractor, employer of record, or a direct local entity.
- Currency and payout method. What you're paid in, which platform moves it, and what it costs.
- Hours. Which clock the day runs on, and how much of it overlaps yours.

FAQ
How many remote jobs are actually open to candidates in Ghana?
On 27 September 2026, our index held 1,977 live remote postings from employers' own careers pages that could hire someone in Ghana, out of 53,655 total. Only 5 of them name Ghana directly — the rest are open through EMEA, Africa or a worldwide line.
Why do almost no remote job postings mention Ghana by name?
Employers describe eligibility by region, not by listing every country. A company that can employ or contract across Africa typically writes "EMEA" or "Africa" once instead of naming each country, and 50.2% of postings in our whole index say nothing about hiring location at all.
What should I search instead of "Ghana"?
Search EMEA, Africa, worldwide, anywhere, global, and time-zone bands such as GMT or UTC+0. Then read the eligibility line on anything promising, and email the recruiter directly when a posting is silent about hiring locations.
Does Ghana's time zone overlap well with Europe?
Yes. Ghana is UTC+0 year-round with no daylight-saving shift, so it matches London's clock exactly for roughly half the year and sits one to two hours behind Central Europe the rest of the time — one of the easier overlaps on this list to explain to a hiring manager.
How can RemoteHunt help with a remote job search from Ghana?
