Remote Jobs in Egypt: Only 11 of 2,005 Say 'Egypt'

2,005 live remote postings can hire in Egypt, but only 11 name it. How to search EMEA and Middle East instead, and how currency controls affect getting paid.

TL;DR — On 27 September 2026 our index held 2,005 live remote postings open to a candidate in Egypt, out of 53,655 in total. Just 11 of them name Egypt outright — 0.5%. Another 7 reach you through a "Middle East" label, and the rest come from EMEA or a worldwide line. Search the region words, not the country name, and plan for a delay converting any USD you're paid into pounds.

The country-name search is nearly useless here

All figures below are from our index of live postings taken almost entirely from employers' own careers pages — Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, SmartRecruiters and others — refreshed every two hours, measured on 27 September 2026.

Egypt has the lowest share of country-named postings among the ten countries we track a page for. If you search "Egypt" on a job board, you are looking at roughly one job in every two hundred that is actually open to you.

Why "Middle East" and "EMEA" matter more than "Egypt"

An employer names a country only once it has confirmed it can legally hire there. Everyone else writes the shape of their policy instead:

  • "Middle East." Our data shows this label carries almost as many Egypt-eligible postings as the exact country name does — companies hiring across the region often write "Middle East" as shorthand and expect applicants from Cairo, Riyadh and Dubai alike.
  • "EMEA." The largest region bucket open to Egypt. See our guide to what EMEA means in a job posting — the acronym covers a huge span, so check the posting's own country list rather than assuming.
  • Worldwide lines. "Remote — Anywhere", "Fully distributed", "Work from anywhere." This is the single largest bucket open to Egypt in our index and almost never surfaces in a country search.

Half the whole index, 50.2%, states no hiring location at all. That silence is worth one short email before you invest in a full application.

What's actually being posted

Egypt's listings on 27 September 2026 leaned heavily toward customer-facing and business roles alongside engineering: a customer-success manager, recruiting roles, a systems-admin position, an HR specialist, sales development and public-sector business-development roles, and a French-speaking support role at Sutherland, a large outsourcing employer with real operations in Cairo. That fits Egypt's long history as a regional customer-support hub, and it fits our own readers too: the roles searched most on RemoteHunt are project manager, operations, administrative assistant, business analyst, support specialist, full-stack developer, customer service, backend developer, DevOps and customer success — about half of that list is the kind of work Egypt's employers are already posting.

Getting paid: the part that's genuinely different here

A company with no Egyptian entity can still hire you, usually one of two ways. As an independent contractor, you invoice directly and handle your own filing with the Egyptian Tax Authority. As an employee through an employer of record, a firm with an Egyptian entity employs you on the company's behalf and runs payroll. See our guide to contractor vs. employee remote offers for what actually changes between the two — ask which one is on the table in your first call. A direct local entity is uncommon unless the company already has several people in the country.

The currency question is the one to take seriously. Egypt has gone through repeated periods of tight foreign-currency liquidity as the central bank manages external debt and import demand, and formal banking channels have at times been slow to convert incoming dollars into pounds. When we checked in September 2026, Egyptian freelancers commonly received USD through Payoneer, which allows a direct withdrawal to a local bank, while Wise is usable for receiving money into a Wise balance but does not currently issue cards to Egyptian residents. Holding part of a payment in USD rather than converting it all immediately gives you more control over timing — worth discussing with an Egyptian accountant before you agree to a contract.

Tax follows residency. Income earned while you live in Egypt is generally taxable there regardless of which country paid it or in what currency. This is general information, not tax advice for your specific situation.

The scam rule that never changes

A real employer never asks you to pay to apply, to buy a "starter kit," or to cover a recruiter's fee before you're hired. A posting that reached you through "Middle East" or "worldwide" and later asks for money at any stage is not a shortcut to a faster hire — it is the scam. Search the exact company name plus "scam" before you send anyone your banking details.

Cairo's clock, and a seasonal wrinkle worth knowing

Egypt is currently on Eastern European Summer Time, UTC+3, and will shift back to UTC+2 on the last weekend of October 2026 under the country's own daylight-saving law — so the overlap numbers below are for right now and will move an hour after that date.

Their officeTheir 9:00 a.m., in Cairo time (now, UTC+3)What the overlap feels like
London (UTC+1, summer)10:00 a.m.Full overlap with an ordinary UK working day
Berlin, Paris (UTC+2, summer)10:00 a.m.Full overlap, one hour behind your team
Dubai, Riyadh (UTC+4)8:00 a.m.Nearly identical working day
New York (UTC-4, summer)4:00 p.m.Afternoon into evening for you

A European or Gulf role overlaps almost the entire working day right now; a US East Coast role is workable but runs into your afternoon and evening. Recheck this table after the DST switch at the end of October — Cairo will move an hour closer to UTC and every one of those overlaps shifts by an hour. Our explainer on time-zone overlap covers how much shared time most teams expect from a candidate in a different zone.

A short check before you apply

  1. Where does the posting say it can hire? Egypt by name, "Middle East," a wider region, worldwide, or nothing — and if nothing, ask.
  2. Contract type. Independent contractor, employer of record, or a direct local entity.
  3. Currency and conversion. What you're paid in, which platform moves it, and how fast it converts to pounds.
  4. Hours. Which clock the day runs on, and remember the DST switch at the end of October.

FAQ

How many remote jobs are actually open to candidates in Egypt?

On 27 September 2026, our index held 2,005 live remote postings from employers' own careers pages that could hire someone in Egypt, out of 53,655 total. Only 11 name Egypt directly, and 7 more reach you through a "Middle East" label — the rest come through EMEA or a worldwide line.

What should I search instead of "Egypt"?

Search Middle East, EMEA, worldwide, anywhere, global, and time-zone bands such as GMT+2, GMT+3 or CET. Then read the eligibility line on anything promising, and email the recruiter directly when a posting states no hiring location.

Why is it hard to convert dollars into Egyptian pounds?

Egypt has faced periods of tight foreign-currency liquidity tied to import demand and external debt, which has at times slowed how quickly formal banking channels convert incoming dollars. Payment platforms that let you hold a USD balance before converting give you more control over timing — talk to an Egyptian accountant before signing a contract about how you'll be paid.

Is Cairo's time zone the same all year?

No. Egypt currently observes Eastern European Summer Time (UTC+3) and shifts back to standard time (UTC+2) on the last weekend of October under the country's daylight-saving law, then shifts forward again the following April. Recheck any overlap calculation after each switch.
