TL;DR: The best remote job boards for candidates in the United States are the ones that combine a real remote filter with visible pay: Remote OK, Himalayas, Wellfound, Built In and Remotive all show salary on many listings, and Dice, LinkedIn and Indeed add volume. On 30 September 2026 our index held 49,928 live remote postings, and 13,528 of them (27.1%) can hire in the US, more than for any other country. 60.0% of those show a pay figure, and the middle of the stated ranges was $165,750 a year.
The US is the biggest remote market, and the best paid
A US-based candidate can be hired by far more remote postings than a candidate anywhere else, and more of those postings say what they pay. The question for a US searcher is less "which board has remote jobs" than "which board wastes the least of my time", meaning one with a remote filter that works and pay shown on the listing.
What our index shows for the US
All figures come from our index of live remote postings that employers published themselves on their own careers pages or hiring systems, counted on 30 September 2026. Copies on other job boards are not counted. The method is on our page about how we check every job, and the same kind of figures, with definitions, sit on our remote job market stats page.
| Measured on 30 September 2026 | Postings | Share |
| Live remote postings in the index | 49,928 | 100% of all |
| Open to a candidate in the United States | 13,528 | 27.1% of all |
| ...that name the United States | 11,678 | 86.3% of those |
| ...that say they hire anywhere | 1,378 | 10.2% of those |
| ...that reach the US through a region label such as North America | 472 | 3.5% of those |
| Can hire only in the United States | 10,512 | 21.1% of all |
| ...that show a pay figure (open to the US) | 8,118 | 60.0% of the 13,528 |
More than three in four of the postings open to a US candidate (10,512 of 13,528, or 77.7%) are open to the US and no other country. That is why "remote" often means "remote within the US" on a US board, and why a candidate outside the US finds so much of the same list closed. Our explainer on what "remote, US only" means covers the wording.
Pay on US postings
The middle of the stated pay ranges on postings open to the US was $165,750 a year, among the 8,118 that show pay. For comparison, the middle was $113,848 among postings open to Germany and $122,575 among postings open to the United Kingdom. Two cautions: these are advertised ranges, converted to annual US dollars, and postings open to several countries are counted for each. Hourly-only pay is not counted. Our pages on remote work salaries by role and geographic pay bands go further, and our salary pages show ranges by profession.

How to read a US remote posting
- "Remote" with a US state or city: often means remote within the US, sometimes only in certain states because of tax or employment rules. Ask which.
- "US only": the employer can hire only in the United States. If you live in the US, this is your list.
- "North America": usually the US and Canada, sometimes Mexico.
- "Anywhere" or "Worldwide": open to you, but it will attract many more applicants from every country.
- No location at all: 48.6% of postings in our index say nothing about where they hire, so ask.
The same advice applies to pay. A range is worth more than "competitive", and our guide to negotiating remote salary covers how to use one.
Where RemoteHunt fits
RemoteHunt is not a board you post on. It reads live remote postings straight from employers' own careers pages, checks where each one says it can hire, and scores the ones that can hire you from 0 to 100 against your resume, with a written reason. If you have no resume, it builds one with you. It is free to start and you never pay to apply. A board gives you a list, and RemoteHunt tells you which of the postings fit you and can hire in the US. The 90-day pass ($29 once, no renewal, 14-day refund) opens the company and apply link on every match.
