TL;DR: For remote engineering manager, head of engineering and VP of engineering jobs, use Himalayas and Jobgether to see which countries each employer can hire in, Wellfound and the Hacker News "Who is hiring?" thread for startups, Just Join IT for Central and Eastern Europe, and LinkedIn for volume. On 8 October 2026 our index held 818 live remote engineering leadership postings from employers' own careers pages; 91.2% were senior level or above, and 32.8% did not say where they hire.
What is different about this search
A manager runs meetings, reviews and hiring for a team, so many employers want the manager in the same country or time zone as that team. Read the location line and the working hours first: a "remote" posting that asks for overlap with California is remote only for people near those hours. Two more things to check:
- Employee or contractor. Leadership roles are almost always employment. If the company has no office in your country, ask whether it hires through an employer of record, which employs you locally on its behalf.
- The title jump. Many engineers have run a team as "tech lead" or "engineering lead". Search those titles too. Our guide to getting a first remote engineering manager job covers the move from engineer to manager.

Board by board
Himalayas
Himalayas is free for job seekers, and each listing carries a label for where the employer can hire, such as "United States only" or "United Kingdom only". When we checked in October 2026 its engineering manager page mixed software roles with civil and electrical engineering roles, so search "software engineering manager".
Wellfound
Wellfound lists startup jobs. Its engineering manager page showed 1,050 results when we checked in October 2026. Most listings showed a salary range, some in euros, and some showed equity. Some locations read "Remote only" with a list of countries, others "Remote" with a single city or country, so read the location line before you apply.
Hacker News "Who is hiring?"
Hacker News runs a "Who is hiring?" thread each month. Its rules say to post only if you are part of the hiring company, with no recruiting firms or job boards. In the October 2026 thread, engineering manager posts named a time zone, such as "CET/CEST overlap" or "Remote (PST)". Search the page for "engineering manager" and "head of engineering".
Just Join IT
Just Join IT is a Polish tech job board. A remote search for "engineering manager" showed 539 offers when we checked in October 2026, some with related titles. Many offers show a salary and the contract type: B2B (you invoice as a business), permanent, or both. A filter shows only offers with pay.
Jobgether
Jobgether collects remote jobs from many companies. Its engineering manager page showed 1,225 jobs when we checked in October 2026, each with a region label such as "Remote from Europe" or "Remote from EMEA". Listings were visible without paying; a paid Premium plan adds extras.
Rands Leadership Slack
Rands Leadership Slack is a community of leaders, not a job board. Its welcome page listed 39,837 leaders when we checked in October 2026, and you ask to join by email. Use it to ask peers how a company runs remote management before you apply.
LinkedIn is the volume source. A signed-out search for "engineering manager" with the remote filter in the link showed "35,000+" results worldwide when we checked in October 2026, and the first listings named cities such as Singapore, Sydney and Gurugram. Open each posting to read whether it is remote and where it can hire.
Also checked. We Work Remotely needs an account: free Basic browses and saves, and paid WWR Pro adds applications. Its Management and Finance category had no engineering leadership roles when we checked, and Remote OK's engineering manager page showed 1 result.
What our index shows for engineering managers
These figures come from our index of live remote postings that employers published themselves on their own careers pages or hiring systems: 43,429 on 8 October 2026. Copies on job boards are not counted, and office and hybrid jobs are not counted (see how we check every job). The group here is the postings our index files under the Engineering Manager (754) and VP Engineering (64) labels. The labels are assigned by a model and are loose. We left out 36 CTO postings, most of them customer-facing "Field CTO" roles. "All professions" is the 25,804 postings our index has sorted by profession.

Many postings do not say where they hire. On 8 October 2026, 34.1% of Engineering Manager postings did not say where they hire, the 5th-highest share of the 41 professions with 200 or more postings. A posting that says nothing is not open worldwide: ask before you apply.
Very few say they hire anywhere. Only 3 of the 818 postings said in their own words that they hire anywhere, and our index read 3.4% as open worldwide. The Engineering Manager label alone (2.9%) was #35 of the 41 professions on that measure.

Counting job boards as well, our index held 1,588 live engineering leadership postings on 8 October 2026, and 770 of them (48.5%) were seen only through job boards, against 56.8% across all labelled postings.

Poland comes up more often. Poland was in 8.2% of engineering leadership hiring lists, against 7.2% for all professions, which is why Just Join IT is on the list above.
Latin America and the Philippines come up less often. A Latin American country was in 4.5% of the lists, against 8.5% for all professions, and the Philippines in 1.0%, against 2.5%. Nigeria was in 24 lists but named in only 5: most reach it through regions such as "EMEA".
Level: a senior market
On 8 October 2026, 91.2% of the 818 postings were senior level or above, 8.4% were mid-level and only 1 was junior, against 58.0%, 24.1% and 7.9% across all professions. The most common titles under the Engineering Manager label were "engineering manager" (31), "engineering lead" (20) and "technical lead" (16), so search lead titles too; if you want to stay hands-on, see our job boards for software engineers.
