The full posting

Tremendous is the global platform built for businesses to send payouts—gift cards and money—to anyone, anywhere, instantly. We're trusted by 20,000+ organizations, from startups to giants like Google, GitHub, and Notion, to reach millions of recipients worldwide.

We're profitable and growing without outside investors. We're fully remote, with a high-documentation, low-meeting culture that leaves more time for the work that matters—and for your life outside it. Our employee NPS sits in the 80s.

About the role

The team: You’ll lead our new Prepaid Cards team. Prepaid cards are one of Tremendous’ largest catalog categories; we already issue millions of cards a year. The team will expand our existing program with new card types and features, and launch programs in new geographies. You’ll report to our Director of Engineering, Chloe .

How we work: You and your PM shape the roadmap, priorities, and processes that work for your team. We default to writing down decisions and sharing written updates instead of calling a meeting. You will not be stuck in back-to-back meetings.

How we manage: We coach developmentally, addressing patterns over time. Engineers own their projects and technical decisions; managers provide context, feedback, and support while giving them room to work independently.

What we value: You’ll join a team building on stable infrastructure, with room to focus on development rather than constant firefighting. We’re deliberate about which tech debt we tackle, prioritizing work that unblocks development and strengthens our systems. When incidents happen, we respond, conduct a blameless post-mortem, and address the underlying causes.

What you’ll do

  • Grow your engineers’ careers through regular 1:1s, clear expectations, thoughtful feedback, and developmental coaching.

  • Ensure your team ships high-quality, maintainable code. Set the team’s overall technical direction and vision, while giving engineers ownership of technical decisions and offering guidance when needed.

  • Partner with product and design to scope projects around customer needs and business goals, bringing in the right people across engineering and the wider business.

  • Keep delivery moving: coordinate dependencies across teams, surface risks early, and communicate changes in scope or timing.

  • Improve how your team works, addressing recurring friction in planning, collaboration, tooling, and development.

What you’ll bring

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering , including at least 2 years leading a team as a manager or tech lead.

  • A commitment to developing people. You give clear, actionable feedback, understand what motivates different engineers, and help them take on work that develops their skills. You address difficult conversations with care and candor.

  • Strong technical judgment. You evaluate approaches and tradeoffs, recognize decisions that need closer scrutiny, and help engineers make sound decisions independently.

  • Strong communication. You communicate clearly and concisely, tailoring your message to your audience. You share regular updates so teammates and partners have the context they need.

  • Delegation and autonomy. You exercise judgment about where to spend your time and energy. You know when your involvement will help, when to trust an engineer to lead, and how to support the team without becoming a bottleneck.

  • Business and product sense. You weigh priorities and challenge scope based on customer needs and business goals, and explain why the work matters.

  • Leadership on AI adoption. You use AI heavily in your own work and help your team use it effectively. You hold the team accountable for reviewing, testing, and refining AI output with the judgment needed to build a product we’ll maintain for years.

  • Technical range. Our stack includes Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, and Google Cloud. Experience with these technologies is a plus, but not required.

What's cool about the role

  • Competitive pay and equity. Base salary for this role: $250,000 - $300,000.

  • Comprehensive benefits. 100% covered health (US), unlimited PTO, 12-16 weeks paid parental leave. Read more about our benefits here .

  • We invest in your tools. Everyone has a $5k/month budget for AI tools.

  • Fully remote. Work from anywhere in the Americas.

  • Great culture. Read more about how we work in our public handbook .
