The full posting

We're making energy fair, clean, and simple for all using technology.

Octopus Energy started with a bold idea: to build Britain’s first truly digital energy supplier. By combining world-class tech with brilliant humans who care deeply about customers and driving the renewable energy transition, we made it happen and in 2025, we became Britain’s largest energy supplier.

Octopus Energy Group is a global energy transition collective. 10 businesses working across 4 continents to tackle energy transformation at nearly every front.

And we constantly push to make energy better. Tirelessly campaigning for fair protections for customers. And building innovative technologies that forge a path to a green energy system.

One way we've been doing this is through the government's Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, which helps eligible households access energy-saving home improvements, from insulation to more efficient heating systems.

As the scheme comes to an end, we're looking for an immediately available brilliant, hands-on Accountant to join us for 2 or 3 days a week to wrap things up and make sure everything is accounted for (quite literally!).

You'll take ownership of regular statutory and regulatory reporting, dig into reconciliations and help scope out and deliver the final audit requirements. We're after someone who's organised, proactive and happy to roll up their sleeves, take ownership and get stuck in.

Experience working with ECO or other government-backed schemes would be a bonus, but what really matters is someone with a strong accounting background, an eye for detail and the drive to see things through to the finish line. This is a remote role with occasional travel to our London office.

What you'll do:

  • Monthly management reporting, this includes preparation of month end workbooks, posting journals, preparing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations, and liaising with finance representatives to finalise results
  • Preparation of year-end financial statements, working closely with our Group finance team and tax team
  • Preparation and filing of VAT returns
  • Managing the reasonable assurance engagement for the ECO scheme government grant.
  • Leading the wind-down of the business from a finance perspective and transition to dormant entity accounts.

What you'll need:

  • You'll be a qualified chartered accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent), with a solid understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations and audit processes.
  • You'll be confident working with large and complex sets of data, with strong Excel skills to help you analyse, reconcile and make sense of the numbers.
  • You'll have a good understanding of UK accounting standards, including FRS 102, and know how to apply these in practice.
  • You're a great communicator who can take complex financial information and explain it clearly, whether that's to your immediate team or senior leaders across the business.
  • You're super organised, proactive and self-motivated. You'll be comfortable taking ownership of your workload, juggling multiple priorities and making sure deadlines are met.
  • You've got a brilliant eye for detail and take real pride in getting things right, particularly when it comes to financial reporting, reconciliations and audit requirements.
  • You're someone who loves getting stuck in! You'll be happy rolling up your sleeves, working through challenges and finding solutions without needing lots of direction.
  • You're comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, where things aren't always perfectly mapped out and you'll sometimes need to figure things out as you go.
  • Experience working with ECO, government-funded programmes or other regulated schemes would be a big bonus, but it's not essential. We're just as interested in someone who's curious, quick to learn and excited to take on something new.
