About the Role

Shopware is a leading international open-commerce platform for ambitious companies in digital commerce. With an API-first approach, maximum flexibility, and a strong community, we create future-oriented e-commerce solutions. Our 450 employees across Europe share a passion for innovation, openness, and team spirit. If you enjoy developing tools that make other developers more productive, and if APIs, CLIs, frameworks, and workflows that just feel right are important to you, then this role is perfect for you. As a Software Engineer in the Developer Experience (DX) Tooling Team, you will work on the tools and foundations that developers use to build, extend, test, and operate Shopware. Your contribution will directly influence how pleasant, efficient, and reliable it is to develop on our open-source platform. This position can be based on-site, hybrid, or fully remote within Germany or in specific European countries where we are registered. Your place of work will be agreed upon in advance and will form the basis of your employment contract.

Job Responsibilities

  • Empowering Developers: You will design and develop tools for developers that improve working with Shopware – from local development through CI to production operations.
  • Shaping DX Foundations: You will work on CLI tools, SDKs, scaffolding, APIs, and internal frameworks that support Shopware's open-source ecosystem.
  • Open Source by Conviction: You will collaborate with a global developer community, maintain open-source tooling, conduct reviews, and improve documentation.
  • Quality & Usability First: You will ensure that the tooling is robust, well-tested, and intuitive to use – thereby reducing friction and cognitive load for developers.
  • Connecting Teams: You will work closely with core, SaaS, documentation, and community teams to ensure the tooling meets real developer needs.
  • Evolving Workflows: You will optimize build, test, release, and extension workflows to make development faster and more secure.

What You'll Bring

  • Solid experience with PHP is essential, ideally within a Symfony-based ecosystem. Experience with frameworks like Laravel is also very valuable, while knowledge of Golang is a plus.
  • Even more important, however, is an open mindset and the genuine motivation to learn new technologies and programming languages if they offer added value.
  • You already have practical experience in improving developer experience through CLI tooling, automation, APIs, scaffolding, and workflow optimization, and you enjoy developing tools that make other developers more productive.
  • A strong focus on DX, usability, maintainability, and software quality shapes your decisions.
  • Working with Composer, dependency management, automated tests, and CI workflows is familiar to you, and you value developing tooling that integrates seamlessly into existing developer ecosystems.
  • Working with AI-powered development workflows is a given for you. Whether it's AI-assisted coding, automation, documentation, or productivity tooling – you are enthusiastic about using AI specifically to improve engineering efficiency and developer experience.
  • An open-source mindset, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and external developers are crucial for success in this role.
  • Very good English skills, both written and spoken, enable you to collaborate effectively across teams and time zones. German is a plus, but not a requirement.

What We Offer

  • Company Culture: Open culture, flat hierarchies, initiative is encouraged.
  • Employment Contracts: Permanent positions offer long-term security.
  • Flexibility: Flexible working hours and options for mobile working and full remote contracts.
  • Equipment: Free choice of work hardware.
  • Onboarding: Well-structured onboarding with support from a personal "buddy."
  • Work Environment: Inspiring environment with dedicated colleagues and a dynamic community.
  • Development Opportunities: Diverse opportunities for personal growth and development.
  • Additional Benefits: Attractive benefits such as company pension schemes, health programs, and regular team events.
  • ...and much more!
