About the Team The Real Estate & Workplace (REW) team creates and operates the workplaces and services that help OpenAI employees do their best work. Within Workplace Experience, Transportation connects our global office network through programs designed around employee needs, local conditions, and operational excellence.
About the Role As Global Transportation Program Sr. Manager, you will own the strategy, expansion, and day-to-day performance of OpenAI’s employee transportation programs. You will make it easier for employees to get to and between our workplaces through reliable, accessible, and cost-effective commuting options.
We’re looking for a builder who has launched and scaled employee transportation programs across countries in a fast-growing organization. You will translate our global workplace expansion plans into a transportation roadmap, establishing the systems, vendor partnerships, and operating practices needed to support new markets and growing offices.
You’ll balance global consistency with local needs, creating repeatable approaches that enable local teams to deliver reliable service as the company scales. Location and work model : San Francisco, CA based, with required travel up to 10% to our global offices. This role will be in office Monday - Wednesday, with the option to work from home Thursdays and Fridays.
In this role, you will: Own a global transportation expansion roadmap aligned with office openings, headcount growth, and changing commute demand. Prioritize investments, forecast capacity and costs, and lead launches from market assessment through operational readiness and ongoing service delivery.
Manage the global employee transportation portfolio across shuttles, parking, micromobility, transit and commuter benefits, and EV charging. Determine the right service mix for each market based on employee needs, local infrastructure, accessibility, and cost. Build a scalable operating model across regions, including repeatable launch playbooks, clear global and local ownership, vendor standards, integrated tools and reporting, and training for local teams.
Adapt programs to local infrastructure, regulations, and benefit practices without rebuilding the approach for every office. Manage transportation vendors from sourcing and onboarding through service reviews, renewals, corrective action, and transitions, partnering with Strategic Sourcing and Legal on commercial terms.
Own program budgets, forecasts, invoice review, and business cases; use utilization and cost data to recommend where to invest, optimize, or retire services. Partner with Workplace Operations, Real Estate, Facilities, Corporate Security, People/Benefits, Payroll, Finance, Legal, IT, and Internal Comms to clarify ownership and deliver integrated programs.
Work with Benefits, Payroll, and Legal to design and administer transit benefits, parking eligibility, subsidies, and reimbursement policies appropriate to each market. Establish clear service levels, incident escalation, backup plans, and outage communications so employees can navigate disruptions safely and confidently.
Improve the end-to-end employee journey, including discovery, enrollment, booking, support, and feedback; build clear intake, tracking, and resolution processes with internal teams and vendors. Measure service reliability, adoption, capacity utilization, employee satisfaction, accessibility, and cost effectiveness; turn findings into improvements and concise leadership recommendations.
You might thrive in this role if you: Have directly built and scaled employee transportation programs across multiple countries during significant organizational growth, with demonstrated results in new-market launches, service reliability, adoption, and cost management. Bring hands-on experience across multiple transportation modes, including shuttles, parking, micromobility, and transit or commuter benefits, with the ability to manage an integrated portfolio.
Can turn ambiguous expansion needs into practical plans, budgets, operating standards, and clear decisions while staying close to daily service delivery. Have managed complex vendor relationships and commercial performance, including service levels, budgets, procurement processes, and service recovery.
Use data to evaluate demand, service quality, utilization, and cost, and can explain tradeoffs clearly to employees, partners, and leaders. Build effective partnerships across functions, regions, and external providers, and can drive decisions and accountability without relying on formal authority.
Apply sound judgment to safety, accessibility, local requirements, and employee data, bringing in the right specialists when needed. Communicate clearly, act on feedback, and remain calm and accountable during service disruptions or changing priorities. Experience with commute-management platforms, transportation demand management, sustainability measurement, or systems integrations is a plus.
