Are you an experienced lawyer with a generalist mindset? Are you ready to join a Nordic in-house legal team as its sole lawyer based in Finland? If you answered YES , please keep reading, because you could be the one we are looking for to join Arval as a new (Senior) Legal Counsel ! Arval, BNP Paribas Group Company, was founded in 1989 as a specialist in full-service vehicle leasing and new mobility solutions for its customers, ranging from international groups to smaller companies and individual retail clients. More recently, Arval has diversified its business to become a key player in integrated mobility, addressing a wider audience that includes drivers and private individuals. Arval has over 8600 employees operating in 28 countries with over 1,800,00 leased vehicles. As BNP Paribas’s in-house lawyer , you will advise Arval’s Nordic business, with focus on Finland. This is a versatile role, and your responsibilities will cover the following areas: Contractual matters: You will draft and revise contracts with a focus on operational leasing, consumer law, public procurement, insurance distribution, and competition law and data protection. Contract negotiations: You will support in contract negotiations with customers, partners and suppliers. Ongoing legal support: You will support particularly Finnish business units in all legal matters (excluding tax and employment law). You will identify and assess legal risks, advise the business on legal matters, and provide regular training. Template updates: You will develop and maintain legal templates and other documentation. Regulatory monitoring and risk mitigation: You will monitor applicable legal and regulatory changes and assist in mitigating any resulting legal risks, including by ensuring necessary revisions to legal documentation, policies, and procedures. Strategic legal development: In addition to day-to-day operational work, you will manage legal projects and contribute to group-wide legal initiatives. While your primary focus is to support Arval’s business units, you will also regularly assist the Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) business line of BNP Paribas. You will spend approximately one working day a week in the BNP Paribas Helsinki office, offering legal support to the CIB business line in the Nordics. This will include advising on transactional matters as well as legal and regulatory projects. You will work closely with the CIB Legal Nordics team and other Nordic legal teams of BNP Paribas Group and business partners assisting them with legal advice linked to Finnish operations. This position will be mainly based at Arval Finland’s office in Vantaa, and you will report to the Regional Head of Legal Nordics Arval, based in Stockholm. BNP Paribas’s branch office is in Helsinki city center. Based on Arval’s hybrid model, you can work remotely two days a week. You may be the person we’re looking for if: 🔹 you have a Finnish Master of Laws degree and ideally 7 to 9 years of relevant professional experience working as an in-house legal counsel and/or at a law firm – international working experience and previous experience in an industrial environment or in finance is considered a plus; 🔹 you are a generalist with a solid background within multiple legal areas and the ability to engage in new legal areas. Some of the areas of law for which we expect you to have solid background is contract and consumer law, public procurement as well as data protection. Experience in AML/CFT regulatory frameworks is a plus. Background in transactional and regulatory legal matters in the financial sector in Finland is an advantage but not a requirement. Ideally, you also have experience providing legal advice and assistance in insurance contract matters; 🔹 you have an independent and solution-driven approach and a proven ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice; 🔹 you are a collaborative team player with a strong sense of integrity; 🔹 you have a strong analytical judgement and the ability to assess complex legal and regulatory matters; and 🔹 you have great communication skills and excellent working proficiency in both English and Finnish – knowledge in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish is considered a plus.
