You've probably walked past our lockers on the streets of your city. That's where it starts! But we're building something much bigger: the infrastructure layer for how Europe receives deliveries. We've scaled past €100M in revenue across 9 countries in under four years, with tens of millions of people using our products every month. And we're now one of the fastest growing tech scale-ups in Europe. We are seeking an experienced Firmware Engineer to lead the design process of internal R&D embedded systems-related initiatives: This role sits inside that R&D team and will own firmware workstreams from exploratory research and PoC to functional prototypes and engineering handoff for industrialization Fair warning: we're scaling fast and the data and reporting capabilities are scaling with us. You'll often need to pull from multiple systems and build the picture yourself before you can analyse it. If you need everything pre-structured to do good work, this isn't the role. What you’ll be doing: Research & Feasibility Reports (software/architecture options, integration risk, recommended PoC approach) Firmware bring-up, bootloader, BSPs and driver implementations. PoC firmware & cloud/edge demo applications with validation reports and acceptance criteria. Functional prototype (firmware) and system validation evidence CI/CD pipelines for firmware and automated test suites (unit/integration/HIL) Engineering handoff package: build/release instructions, API/contracts, validation notes, known limitations and guidance for production Technology scouting and short evaluation reports for new hardware/software integrations; What you’ll bring to the table: Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Computer or Software Engineering (or related) 3+ years of professional experience delivering embedded firmware/software for hardware products (from prototype to MVP/hand-off) Strong C/C++ skills for embedded development Python, JavaScript and Bash for tooling and tests Practical experience with RTOS (FreeRTOS, Zephyr) and embedded Linux (Yocto/Buildroot, Debian packaging, kernel/driver work) Hands-on board bring-up experience, including use of hardware tools like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers Strong knowledge of networking and communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, RS485, UDP/TCP-IP, MQTT, CoAP, HTTP/REST Experience with IoT connectivity (2G/3G/4G/LTE, NB-IoT, LoRa, Sigfox) and modem integration Proficiency with Git and modern CI/CD tooling; experience composing automated firmware pipelines and unit testing frameworks Experience with Docker and familiarity with Linux packaging (Debian/RPM/Yocto) Experience with vibration/vibe coding (productized vibe firmware) It would be great if you would also have: Familiarity with SoC/SoM and common MCU families (Infineon, TI, NXP, ST) and experience with FPGA/SoC integration is a plus. Experience developing bootloaders, BSPs and device drivers; confident working across kernel and user layers. Familiarity with cloud IoT platforms (AWS IoT Core, Azure IoT, GCP IoT) and telemetry/observability services. Experience with embedded Rust or modern embedded frameworks. Background in startups or prior roles as co-founder / core contributor in high-growth engineering teams. Why join us? The opportunity to join our R&D team and play a pivotal role in the design process of internal R&D embedded systems-related initiatives while contributing to innovative solutions that redefine Bloq.it's revolution in the smart locker industry ; A dynamic and fast-paced work environment with a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning ; Competitive salary and flexible benefits package, tailored to your experience and skills ; Eligibility for performance-based bonus, tied to your results and designed to reward your impact ; Work how you work best - we offer a remote-friendly policy and flexible hours so you can stay productive and keep life balanced ; Portuguese Health Insurance including mental health ; Flexible Sports and Wellness membership covering multiple gyms and studios Unlimited days off (subject to manager approval).
