Job Summary
Aptive is seeking a Health Informatics Program Manager to lead several engineering projects for the Veterans Health Administration. The ideal candidate will have experience leading software engineering, data and test teams and an interest in improving our healthcare system through data science applied across patient safety, policy, usability, clinical and revenue cycle domains. Using their informatics expertise, the Health Informatics Program Manager will influence internal and federal leadership teams as a trusted advisor with a focus on improving healthcare operations and clinical outcomes. The position offers stimulating advanced analytics activities (AI/ML), in a rich healthcare environment. This position is remote but requires periodic travel to Aptive’s Alexandria, Virginia headquarters.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead Aptive’s health informatics programs working with government entities to apply data science, decision intelligence, and analytics to transform healthcare operations and improve patient outcomes.
Guide, mentor, and lead a senior data team ensuring interoperability standards, security, and general requirements are met
Collect, elaborate, and manage requirements from customers - actively participate in setting up and managing new studies
Set technical direction, manage schedules, resources and customer satisfaction
Inform leadership and subordinates on technical tools, methodologies, and resources used for conducting studies and analyzing classified and unclassified information
Lead team in the application of operations research techniques and in-depth knowledge of data science techniques and methodologies such as machine learning, predictive analysis, prescriptive analysis and optimization, and other emerging analytical technique
Plan, forecast, identify, and define major problems and future needs, seeks root causes, develops practical courses of action and timely solutions and identifies opportunities for significant process enhancements and recommended changes
Evaluate the performance of decision systems, models, and tools; involves peers and team members in analyzing strengths and weaknesses in performance, and spearheads pilots and planned functional or technical change initiatives
Manage relationship with VA clients and strategic partners
Minimum Qualifications
- 15+ years of professional experience and domain expertise in Health Informatics, Health IT, and/or Clinical Informatics
- Expert level skill across Python, R, SQL, Java, Julia, Scala and applications like SPSS, SAS
- 5+ years of advanced data analysis (AI/ML) experience
- Strong experience working with data and AI/ML platforms (Azure ML, AWS AI/ML, DataBricks, Palantir, SnowFlakes, etc.)
- Expertise in software/big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka
- Proficiency in visualization tools (PowerApps, PowerBI, Looker, Metabase, Tableau, seaborn, etc.)
- Excellent problem-solving, collaboration and communication (verbal and writing) skills with fluency in MS Office.
- Passion for continuous learning as data science evolves.
- Healthcare, research, and consulting experience preferred
- PhD / Masters / BS degree in data science, statistics, or computer/information science or similar area a minimum
Desired Qualifications
- Expertise in Electronic Health Record Management (EHRM) system integration and support
- Direct experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs and/or Veterans Health Administration
